Batter up!
April 8, 2015
As the 2015 MLB regular season just underway, it’s time to take a look at the favorites to win the championship. With the Twin’s already missing their top pitcher due to a suspension, they do not look to be in the hunt for the playoffs. Nevertheless, there are many other teams vying for the top spot in the league.
Washington Nationals: Last year, the Nationals won an impressive 96 games in the regular season, but they were unable to put all the pieces together in the playoffs, falling short of reaching the World Series. However, this year the Nationals look poised to take the crown. With the league’s best pitching staff by far, they have ability to shut any team down offensively. While their position players are not as dominant, they still have a championship-caliber lineup. Their only real concern is the health of their players, which is already at stake by early injuries to Denard Span and Jason Worth.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Last year the Dodgers were spectacular, winning well over 90 games and the NL West crown. But while this regular season success was impressive, the Dodgers also failed in crunch time and could not reach the World Series either. While they look impressive on paper again this year, the question must be asked: will they be any better than last year’s team? While they may not have added any new talent to their roster, their extra year of experience could be what was needed to push them all the way.
Los Angeles Angels: The other team from LA looks to be no slouch either. Led by their star Mike Trout, they look to ride one of the best offenses in the league into the playoffs. They also have emerging star Garrett Richards on the mound to anchor their starting rotation. One of this team’s big question marks is Josh Hamilton. Josh is currently injured and potentially facing a suspension for drug use. If the Angels can keep everything together until playoff time, look for them to make a push late into October.
