September 26th was a day that shattered attendance records. 17,327 students, families, and children gathered in Collegeville, MN, the home of the Johnnies, to watch the annual Tommie-Johnnie matchup. The tradition started back in 1901, and for the last 110 years the teams have met each other on the field 80 times, 50 of those in the last 50 years. The matchup is notorious for overtime nail biters and surprises.

St. Thomas got the victory on Saturday, ending in a score of 35-14. However, St. John’s leads the all time series 51-31-1.

Fans were there bright and early to join the hosts of SportsCenter’s “On the Road” in a feature story. The DIII game drew the attention of SportsCenter because both teams are nationally ranked and the in-state rivalry draws big crowds.
