Win or lose, we all love playing sports. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you may lose the game. Losing is a part of sports and happens to everyone. It even happens to the greats, such as Michael Jordan. Jordan has once said “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Since losing is unavoidable for everyone, It is important to remember these key things after a tough game.
- Don’t Be Hard On Yourself.
It’s easy to feel sad after losing a game but remember that you tried your hardest and that’s all that matters! Everyone fails sometimes, that’s just a part of the game. There is always the next game and don’t get too hung up on this one.
2. Learn From Defeat.
After taking some time to reflect on the game, focus on areas where you can improve. Schedule a time to talk to coaches and discuss ways to better your skills. Practice is key to getting better, so focus on specific parts of your game to advance. Don’t forget: losing helps you improve.
3. Set New Goals.
Focus on your hardships from the game and set goals for yourself for the next game! Setting goals gives you something to work towards other than winning. Goals also provide you with the opportunity to feel accomplished even if you end up losing the game.
Losing is the worst part of sports, however, it is vital for improvement. Losing not only helps you better your game but also serves as a learning experience for life. Losing teaches you valuable life lessons such as emotional control, problem solving, and teamwork skills. At the end of the day, sports are meant to be fun, no matter the outcome.
