h my god, oh my god you guys, have you heard the newest play at MHS is Legally Blonde? Many of us have seen the movie starring Reese Witherspoon. But for those who haven’t, Legally Blonde is about a young blonde woman rising above stereotypes. For the Legally Blonde lovers out there or those who are interested in seeing the play, here’s a sneak peek behind the Harvard doors and a look at two of the stars of the show, Katherine Fried and Eric Sargent.
Lead actress Katherine Fried, playing Elle Woods, is participating in her 16th Minnetonka show. Previously, she participated in Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, and How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. This is the first time that Fried is the main character and says that this provides her with a big opportunity for improvement on singing as well as more development in her character because she rarely leaves the stage.
Supporting actor Eric Sargent plays Warner and is participating in his 11th Minnetonka show. Sargent says that although the cast is very large, he enjoys getting to know everyone. He says that the larger the cast puts more pressure on the actors due to the number of people on stage during some of the scenes. He believes the audience is able to see a better and fuller picture of the show because of the big cast.
As a whole, Legally Blonde is very different from the previous plays that MHS has done. The show is a lot more positive than the shows that the Theater Department typically puts on. The play is definitely more modern with its upbeat hip-hop music and includes more dance numbers and singing. There are around 70 cast members in the show with many people performing for the first time. Legally Blonde is a great new edition to Minnetonka Theatre’s history, mixing it up and attracting a new audience.
