Have you ever wondered about the people responsible for all the school events that take place throughout the school year and the processes that are executed? This interview with senior executive and secretary Lucas Brama provides insight into the inner workings of the Student Government at Minnetonka High School:
Q: Can you describe your role and primary responsibilities as a senior executive in the student government?
A: “As secretary, I am responsible for communication. I do most of the emailing and miscellaneous tasks. The executives kind of all share the same responsibilities but I do more on the communication side.”
Q: How does the student government collaborate with school administration, teachers, and other school organizations?
A: “We all meet with Mr. Erikson pretty often and keep him informed on what’s happening in the school. We work closely with the activities coordinator for dances and other events. We also have to talk to the janitors about the setup and takedown of the events. We additionally talk to teachers about certain things, like all the Heart Week logistics – there is a lot to involve teachers on for that.”
Q: Which event is typically the most difficult to plan and execute?
A: “Heart Week, because it’s the biggest. It is a week-long event.”
Q: What’s one thing about being in student government that most people don’t know but would find surprising or interesting?
A: “There is a lot I can’t really tell others, but one I can is that Student Government has a really long history and there is a lot of what you could say ‘lore’ to it. It’s a community that you’ll connect with beyond high school, and that’s a really cool thing that people don’t typically realize.”
