There are few people responsible for taking all of Minnetonka High School’s photography. Almost every event that happens at or concerning the high school is photographically documented by a small group of photographers. The high school employs Andy Smith full time to do most of this, but there are also a couple of students that do a photography internship for principal Erickson, one of them being Khai Do. Do has taken off with his work, usually doing photography for sports. Still, he takes his camera almost everywhere he goes. “Photographers do it sometimes for the money to be fancy with a big camera, but my motto is always to ‘capture the moment’,” Do said in a recent interview. He also appreciates how photos are priceless because they mean so much, “you can’t sell that moment, and you’ll always be grateful for it.” When Do is out in the field, “[he] feels like a different person than who [he is] in school and life.” In his daily life, he also enjoys Vietnamese coffee: “photography and coffee are my two favorite things.”
One of Do’s first professional photos was of fourjets flying over the Eden Prairie High School football field for pregame military appreciation. “I learned that it’s better to [take a photo] and not need it than to miss the opportunity,” he said. Every photo Do takes he knows it has a purpose somewhere, whe it’s in his camera roll from when he went to Vietnam to a football playing scoring a touchdown on @tonkahsprincipal instagram. Do is sure to succeed with his photography career, because he knows it’s more than just a photo.
