Health tip of the month: Mrs. Walker, the winter wellness warrior

Aaaachoooooo! With a simple sneeze, the sniffling, wheezing girl sitting across from you in English class releases hundreds of thousands of germs into the air.   And that’s just one sneeze from one person in a school of roughly 3,000. It’s no wonder that colds spread so quickly in school. In order to help you from feeling sick this winter, one of our science teachers, Mrs. Wacker, has a few tips that should leave you feeling healthy and ready to enjoy long days of snowball fights and hot chocolate.

1.             Cough into your arm. In order to help prevent the spread of illnesses, it’s essential that you always cough or sneeze into your arm. That way, germs don’t travel from your infected hand to the door knob to an innocent person’s hand. This simple action can help everyone remain healthy through winter.

2.             Wash your hands. You’ve probably heard this age-old adage thousands of times in your life, but it is crucial in remaining healthy all winter long. A simple hand washing or squirt of hand sanitizer before eating can stop thousands of germs in their tracks.

3.             Stay hydrated. If you are one of the unfortunate ones to come down with a bad cold, don’t despair.  Drink water! Staying hydrated (at least 8 glasses a day) can help flush the bug out of your system faster, allowing you to return to sledding and igloo making sooner then you ever imagined.
